The 2020 F1 season is yet to begin but Lando Norris is already looking forward to 2021 when he will partner Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren.
Last week Formula 1’s 2021 driver market burst to life when Sebastian Vettel announced that he would be leaving Ferrari at the end of this season.
With reports linking Carlos Sainz to his seat, various publications predicted a straight seat swap with the Spaniard.
Ricciardo put paid to that.
Even before Ferrari confirmed Sainz as Vettel’s replacement, McLaren announced that Ricciardo would be joining them for the 2021 season.
The Aussie, who has signed a multi-year deal, will partner Norris in the ultimate meme team line up.
Last year, in Norris’ first season in Formula 1, the Brit and Ricciardo hit it off giving fans hours of laughter even if some jokes were, shall we say, below the belt.
Jokes aside it promises to be an exciting line up as Norris, who will be 21 when the two team up, learns from seven-time grand prix winner Ricciardo in what should be a team capable of podiums and maybe even race wins.
“Yeah, it’s gonna be a good season I think next year!” Norris told Racer. “I look forward to it.
“We’ve had a good few laughs already over the past couple of years and he’s a really nice guy — we get along well.
“We’ve still got this season — we’ve still got to start it yet but to try and finish off well between Carlos and myself and then we start looking ahead to a kind of a new start and a different challenge for next year.
“But I look forward to having Danny as a team-mate; he’s obviously a multiple race winner and of course he’s Australian, so it’s going to be good fun!”
