Charles Leclerc was his own biggest critic after only qualifying P5 for the Australian Grand Prix.
But, Mercedes’ grip would only get stronger and stronger as they locked out the front row in emphatic style.
Leclerc, meanwhile, could only manage to bag a P5 spot on the grid with Max Verstappen in P4 splitting the Frenchman away from his team-mate Sebastian Vettel in P3.
“I’m not happy with myself,” Leclerc told Sky Sports F1.
“I didn’t do the job in Q3, which is a shame. I thought Q1 and Q2 were very positive on my side.
“The first run in Q3 was pretty okay, but then in the second run I made a mistake and locked up in turn one, and then it was just a very messy lap.”
Happy with my Q1 and Q2 laps. But disappointed with my lap in Q3. Some mistakes from my side. Tomorrow is the race, let's push to have a good one 👊 pic.twitter.com/5ih57GXxSm

Leclerc thought P3 was possible for him but the top two were firmly out of reach.
He added: “It’s a shame. I think the top three was definitely there [to achieve]. The top two not, but we’ll work to get better.
“I’ve been struggling quite a lot on this track last year, so I’m pretty sure things will get better, but I need to work on things from my side to get better when I have to.”
