Lewis Hamilton Ferrari contract: Martin Brundle makes F1 2028 claim

Lewis Hamilton has made it clear that he will not be retiring from Formula 1, and remains “in contract” with Ferrari.

Sky F1 pundit Martin Brundle received a new update on Hamilton’s Ferrari contract situation. According to Brundle’s information, Hamilton has an option, controlled by himself, to extend his Ferrari career into F1 2028.

Hamilton made a clear statement on his Formula 1 future going into the Canadian Grand Prix.

Having seen “people trying to retire” him, Hamilton declared that he was going nowhere, so “get used to it.”

Hamilton’s Ferrari contract was described as a multi-year deal. It had been widely reported that Hamilton holds an option on his side to trigger a 2027 extension.

Brundle has heard that Hamilton has the power to secure his Ferrari seat even further down the line than that.

“He certainly enjoys these cars much more than the ground effect cars we had for four seasons, so he looks more comfortable,” Sky F1 pundit Brundle said of Hamilton.

“He looks happier. There’s definitely a spring in Lewis’ step that we haven’t seen for a year or two.

“But across the garage he’s got Charles Leclerc, who’s on great form.

“But my understanding is Lewis has a unilateral option, in his favour, for 2028 as well, if he wants to stay at Ferrari.

“So, I think what he’s saying is, because there have been a few people saying he should retire, he’s got to go, that’s what he’s responding to there.”

Brundle described how Formula 1 is the centrepiece of Hamilton’s professional life, and argued that the seven-time world champion will not walk away from what he has.

“I mean, Lewis, that’s what he does, and he knits in all his extracurricular stuff so well with being a Formula 1 driver,” said Brundle.

“He loves his fashion and his charitable foundation.

“So Lewis is in a great place. He’s not going to walk away from that unless he has to.”

Seemingly next in line at Ferrari, whenever a vacancy does come up, is Oliver Bearman, who continues to impress as he enters his second full season with Haas.

Multi-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick gave a nod to Bearman when reacting to Hamilton’s announcement that he will not retire in the foreseeable future.

Put to Chadwick that this will be music to the ears of Hamilton fans, she responded: “For Lewis Hamilton fans. Ollie Bearman fans are probably a bit sad to hear that.

“But, it’s great for the sport. I think he’s clearly still thriving in the sport, he’s enjoying it, which is the main thing, and I think if he can find a way to get that Ferrari to the front, whether it’s in his control or not, I think he’s going to want to stay there until he can, because otherwise it will feel like a missed opportunity going to Ferrari.”
