Red Bull’s motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko believes Ferrari are the team to beat, but his outfit have the performance to win races.
The Austrian team enjoyed a positive start to their relationship with Honda – completing four days of issue-free running during the first week of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalunya.
After ending their long-term relationship with Renault, Red Bull’s move to Honda power raised eyebrows throughout the world of motorsport, with the Japanese manufacturer becoming notorious for bad reliability.
Speaking to the official F1 website, he said: “What I saw on the circuit, Ferrari for sure is the fastest car, and behind that, it’s Red Bull and Mercedes.
“So let’s see what we can do, but at the moment we are quite optimistic we can win races from our own strength and not just if others have trouble, or at special circuits like Monte Carlo and Singapore.”
