Charles Leclerc has all the makings of a “super champion”; that’s according to former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa.
Having won the 2017 GP2 title, Leclerc stepped up into Formula 1 last season, racing for Sauber.
It was evident almost from the get-go that the Frenchman was one to watch for the future as he scored 39 of Sauber’s 48 points.
His best result of the season was a P6 in Azerbaijan.
Such were Leclerc’s performances that Ferrari opted to sign him as Kimi Raikkonen’s replacement for 2019.
Leclerc, at just 21 years of age, will be the youngest driver is more than three decades to race for Ferrari.
Massa believes it is a gamble worth taking.
The Brazilian told Autosport: “The team have a competitive technical structure and very good drivers.
“For me, what Ferrari is doing with Leclerc is very good.
“This kid can be a super champion in the future.
“And I hope and cheer that this can be in a near future.”
