Fresh details confirmed about Max Verstappen’s extended Red Bull deal

Although Max Verstappen has extended with Red Bull through to 2030, his new contract includes “agreements” that could allow him to leave the team if stipulated targets aren’t met.

But the intention, says Jos Verstappen, is to continue with Red Bull “until the end”.

Verstappen’s future in Formula 1 was one of the big topics in the first half of the championship.

Not only was the driver complaining about a Red Bull RB22 that has not matched the championship-leading Mercedes W17, but he was also very vocal about his dislike of the new “Formula E on steroids” power unit regulations.

Verstappen was not only linked to McLaren, with multiple sources telling PlanetF1.com that he was talking with the reigning world champions, but there were also suggestions that he could quit the sport altogether.

Verstappen’s Red Bull contract held a clause that, for this year, was based on Verstappen being in the top two, with the driver permitted to end his stay if he was third or lower as Formula 1 headed into its summer break following the Hungarian Grand Prix.

But despite being sixth in the standings, and still chasing a first Grand Prix win for F1 2026, Verstappen has not only affirmed his commitment to Red Bull for 2027; he has also extended his contract through to 2030.

Jos Verstappen says it’s a good deal that was hashed out between Raymond Vermeulen, Verstappen’s manager, and Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.

“I have to say, Raymond has done a good job, together with Oliver Mintzlaff from Red Bull,” the former F1 driver told Formule1.nl.

“The most important factor is that there is mutual trust. Otherwise, of course, we wouldn’t have signed the contract.”

Trust that is coupled with the belief that Red Bull will again design a race-winning car for Verstappen.

“Yes,” insisted Jos Verstappen, “the confidence is there that we will get another winning car at Red Bull.

“But to what extent they will actually succeed is of course always a matter of waiting. You never know. They have to take care of that at the team.”

As such, he confirmed that there are clauses in Verstappen’s latest extension.

“Of course, agreements have been made about this in the contract,” he continued.

“What those agreements are, we know that and Red Bull knows that and we are not going to publicise that.”

But while clauses are in place that would allow Verstappen to leave Red Bull before 2030 if specific targets aren’t met, Jos Verstappen says ideally his son wants to see out his F1 career with Red Bull.

Speaking in a separate interview with Viaplay, he said: “Look, ultimately, we’ve been here for an incredibly long time, of course, and it now looks like we’ll continue until the end.

“That’s just great to see. We’re loyal to Red Bull. And there’s a sense of calm again.”

Verstappen was asked about the details in his contract when he spoke with the media, including PlanetF1.com, at Zandvoort.

He made it clear that he wasn’t willing to discuss his extension in detail.

“I mean, I’ve never disclosed anything in my contract, so yeah, that stays the same,” he said.

He added: “Red Bull allows me to do things also a little bit outside of Formula One. So it’s like a big plus, all of it, the whole package, which I’m of course very grateful for.

“As for the contract itself, details, I never talk about that.”

He did, however, reaffirm that he would like to see out his Formula 1 career with Red Bull, having entered the sport with Red Bull’s junior team, then known as Toro Rosso, in 2015 before joining the senior team a year later.

“I always said,” Verstappen stated, “and I said this when Dietrich [Mateschitz] was still alive, I said my goal and target is to finish my career in this team, and I think we are getting closer to that. I mean, of course, there’s still a lot of years ahead, but that’s still the target.”

Verstappen won on his Red Bull debut at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix and has increased his tally 71 Grand Prix wins in total with the team, and four Drivers’ World Championships.
