Former Force India development driver Nikita Mazepin will step up to Mercedes later this week when he tests the W10 at the post-Spanish GP test.
According to Motorsport.com, the Formula 2 driver will join Valtteri Bottas for the two days of testing.
Mercedes have yet to confirm which driver will be in action on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Mazepin’s Mercedes run comes on the back of the end of his relationship with Force India, now known as Racing Point.
With Lance Stroll’s father Lawrence getting the nod ahead of Mazepin’s father, Russian billionaire Dmitry, the driver’s time at the team came to an end last year.
But while 20-year-old Mazepin waits for his opportunity in F1, however it may come, he will at least have a chance to shinee on the big stage when he tests the Mercedes W10 later this week.
He won’t be the only youngster in action this week with F1 hopefuls Antonio Fuoco, Dan Ticktum, Pietro Fittipaldi and Callum Ilott also in action.
Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc as well as Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll will conduct Pirelli tyre testing over the course of the two days.
