Guenther Steiner: Ferrari complaints fall on deaf ears

Haas boss Guenther Steiner has said that Mercedes customers have no room to complain about Ferrari’s gains this season.

The American outfit have propelled themselves forward in the 2018 campaign and currently occupy fifth in the World Constructors’ Championship – 16 points behind fourth-placed Renault.

Haas have benefitted from a more powerful engine from Ferrari with Sauber also showing signs of improvement with a current-spec power unit from the Scuderia fitted in.

Haas’ rise has irked some other teams in the paddock over the course of the season, but Steiner has said that the complaints are pretty rich considering Mercedes power has dominated over the last few years.

“Mercedes customers shouldn’t complain because they had a very good engine the last four years,” Steiner told Motorsport.com.

“The first years of these regulations, if you didn’t have a Mercedes engine, you were nowhere. Now Ferrari has overtaken them and everybody having a Ferrari engine are critiqued – ‘Oh, you’ve got the good engine’.

“Yeah we have. So did you the last four years and you didn’t take advantage of it. So what can I do? I’m very happy. If the other ones are unhappy, I cannot help them.”
