‘I can’t imagine Mick won’t be in F1’ in 2021

Ralf Schumacher thinks his nephew, Mick, is destined for Formula 1 in 2021 and “cannot imagine” him not being called up from Formula 2.
The son of the seven-time World Champion, Michael, currently sits top of the Formula 2 World Championship with six races left in the campaign and continues to be strongly linked with a Formula 1 seat for next season.
The Ferrari academy driver is rumoured to be booked in for a first FP1 outing at the German Grand Prix with Alfa Romeo, which could also be his 2021 team given the close partnership between the Scuderia and Alfa.
Another Ferrari customer team in Haas have also been tipped as an alternative destination.
And Ralf Schumacher thinks that Mick will be heading to Formula 1 in 2021 regardless of whether he wins the title or not.

“I have always said that it is important for Mick to always be in the top three [of the F2 World Championship,” Ralf Schumacher said in his latest column for Sky Sports Germany.
“Now he has also won, is always one of the fastest and now leads the championship.
“His learning curve over the year has been very promising.
“I can’t imagine that Mick won’t be driving Formula 1 next year.
“One thing is for sure…he definitely has what it takes to drive in F1 next year.
“He was runner-up in Formula 4 and he won Formula 3.
“Now he is the leader of F2 at the moment. He has shown performance over several years and classes now and proved that he is one of the best.
“So it is also clear that he has the potential to drive Formula 1.”
Ferrari boss, Mattia Binotto, has made no secret of the fact that the Scuderia have been preparing for Mick’s promotion to Formula 1 in 2021.
He recently told RTL: “I am very happy that Mick is doing well in F2.
“His main focus has to be in F2, he is battling for the championship. That’s where he needs to be concentrated.
“Mick got a great opportunity or possibility next year to drive in F1.
“We need to prepare for that one.
“We will give Mick some opportunities to drive in FP1,” Binotto continued. “But we will not announce it yet.
Asked why not, he explained: “We still need to arrange things.”
