Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi says the new contract he has secured with the team gives him a “big confidence boost” heading into the Brazilian GP.
The Italian was made to wait but Alfa Romeo did eventually announce after the United States GP that Giovinazzi would retain his seat alongside Kimi Raikkonen for the 2020 season.
And with his future now secure, the Ferrari prospect says he will head into the Brazilian Grand Prix with a “big confidence boost”.
“I am really looking forward to racing in Interlagos,” he told the Alfa Romeo Sauber Group website.
“It is a special track, one forever linked with [Ayrton] Senna and with so much Formula 1 history.
“The renewal of my contract is a big confidence boost and I cannot wait to repay the faith the team has shown in me.
“We have made some big steps forward in the last few races and getting back into the points would be the right reward for all of our hard work.”
Raikkonen hasn’t scored points since Hungary, and like his team-mate he believes it’s time to put an end to that run.
“This weekend’s race is another chance for us to score points,” said the Finn.
“There have been a lot of positives in our most recent performances and we feel we can now fight in the midfield once again.
“It would be nice to have some points to show for our progress at the end of the weekend.”
