Robert Kubica has said he did not have an “easy day” testing out new parts as broken bodywork hindered him for a second race weekend running.
Williams have brought a major upgrade package to Germany as they attempt to play catch-up with the rest of the Formula 1 field.
A new floor and bargeboard were part of the package that Kubica tested out on his FW42, whilst team-mate George Russell used the old spec car for comparison purposes.
But, Kubica revealed that he encountered problems on his very first install lap of the day with an incident that compromised his running at Silverstone, too.
“We didn’t have an easy day today, compromised already on the installation lap,” Kubica told reporters back in the paddock after FP2 at the Hockenheimring.
“We will have to revise everything and fix some parts in order [that] they stay attached to the car.
“It’s the second weekend in a row that something is breaking down.
“When you leave the garage and already on installation lap you are compromised, and it was very important for us to do our programme, which we set up, unfortunately we were influenced by this straight away, so it was not an easy day today.
“We hope we can fix it, we were a bit too fragile, that’s how it is.
“We have to make sure everything will stay attached to the car and hopefully tomorrow will be better.”

Kubica and Russell were both still firmly rooted to the bottom of the standings after the two Friday practice sessions in Germany.
Russell was nearly a tenth quicker than Kubica, but both were around 3.5s off the pace set by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
Kubica, though, says a more accurate assessment of the effectiveness of the new parts will not come until the searing temperatures make way for some cooler conditions – a change that is supposed to happen from Saturday onwards.
He added: “The conditions are completely different, the track is different, the tyres are operating in different windows so it’s impossible to judge [the new upgrades].
“If you ask me to compare Silverstone where it was 18c with 38c [on Friday at Hockenheim] and at a completely different track it’s impossible to compare unless you have a magic ball.”
