Rosberg: 2020 could see changing of the guard

Nico Rosberg thinks 2020 could be “the year of the handover” to crowning a Formula 1 World Champion from the younger generation.
His old foe Lewis Hamilton has won five of the last six World Championships and is strong favourite to clinch a record-equalling seventh title in 2020.
Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have both been earmarked as World Champions in the making and Rosberg thinks this could be the season when we see one driver from the younger end of the spectrum lift silverware.
“I have very high hopes it is going to be incredibly exciting, last year we saw different winners,” Rosberg said via The Daily Mail.
“We saw Red Bull win, Ferrari win, I really believe there is a big possibility that continues into this season.
“If they step it up then that would be so awesome if the three teams went head to head. That would give us a spectacular Formula One season and that is all I wish for.
“This could be the year of the handover but it depends on the car and the the challenge of Verstappen and Leclerc. I wouldn’t count Valtteri Bottas out either, Sebastian Vettel will be in there, too.
“There are many drivers who if they have the right car they could be world champions and the handover could certainly happen from one generation to the next.”
