On track for the last time this year in an official session, Lando Norris explored “different driving styles” as he lapped the Yas Marina circuit on Tuesday.

Norris was in action on the opening day of the post-season Pirelli tyre test.

The McLaren driver wrapped up his rookie season with 104 laps, almost two full race distances.

Norris’ best time on Tuesday was a 1:39.741, putting him sixth on the timesheet.

But while the day was all about testing Pirelli’s 2020 tyres, Norris also took some time to focus on his own driving.

“It’s a Pirelli test so obviously we’ve been trying out lots of tyres today, 2019 and 2020 compounds, and conducting back-to-back comparisons,” he said.

“Short performance runs but also long runs without changing anything on the car so that tyres can be compared.

“But it was also a good day for me to explore different driving styles and techniques.

“Overall, it’s been a productive day with good mileage achieved and with both the team and I learning a lot.”

Carlos Sainz takes over from Norris for Day Two.
