Sergio Perez: Has options for 2019

Sergio Perez is going to play the waiting game as he sees how the pieces of the 2019 driver puzzle fit together.

The Force India driver had his sights set on the top of the grid but Mercedes have finalised their 2019 pairing and Ferrari are only considering either Kimi Raikkonen or Charles Leclerc.

However, Daniel Ricciardo impending move to Renault at the end of the 2018 season could trigger plenty of action between the midfield teams.

“I’m lucky enough to have a couple of options,” Perez said.

“Obviously we all want to be driving in the top two teams, Ferrari or Mercedes.

“But it’s very unlikely that I’ll have an opportunity there for next year, so you have to look at what is the best option for your future where you can show your best talents.”

As part of the traditional silly season rumours, Perez has been linked with a move to Haas but he will see what develops with Force India now that they are in the process of a takeover from Lawrence Stroll.

“The last two years, the best of the rest in the drivers’ championship. I just want to see what’s possible for next year, which teams have a vacancy, and then decide,” he added.

“I will definitely wait to see what happens here, because I believe this team has the most potential of anyone out there out of the top three teams.”
