Pirelli confirm tyre compounds for Azerbaijan, Miami and Emilia Romagna GPs
Pirelli tyres lined up at the 2021 Abu Dhabi tyre test. Yas Marina, December 2021.
As Formula 1 enters its early-season break, we now know which tyre compound Pirelli will arm the teams with for the next three rounds upon the series’ return.
It has been a rather gentle introduction to F1 2023 for the paddock personnel, with the Bahrain, Saudi Arabian and Australian Grands Prix having taken place in the opening five weeks of action.
And now the series will have almost a month off between Australia and Azerbaijan, that due to the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix which was originally set to make its first appearance on the calendar since 2019.
That means that the Baku City Circuit will be the next host of Formula 1 action with the Azerbaijan GP race weekend getting underway on 28 April, with race day on 30 April.
Baku also marks the first sprint weekend of the season, and for this round Pirelli has decided to go with the softest tyres in their range.
That means teams will have the C3 available as the hard tyre, the C4 will be the medium and the C5 will be the soft compound.
The Azerbaijan GP will be part one of F1 2023’s first double-header, with the next stop on the following weekend then being the Miami Grand Prix.
This will be Formula 1’s second visit to the Miami International Autodrome, and the tyre allocation remains the same as it was for the inaugural Miami GP.
The C2 tyre then will be the hard, the C3 is going to be the medium compound, and the C4 will serve as the soft.

After that there will be a free weekend before the next round arrives, that being the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.
There we will see a return to the softest Pirelli rubber as the C3 becomes the hard compound, the C4 moves to being the medium and the C5 will be the soft.
Red Bull will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent winning record at the start of F1 2023, with Max Verstappen having won in Bahrain and Australia, while Sergio Perez took the chequered flag in Saudi Arabia.
