Renault F1 boss quits before even starting the job

Thierry Koskas has left his role as the boss of Renault F1 before even starting.

Koskas was named president of Renault Sport in November, giving him control over the French car manufacturer’s Formula 1 programme.

He had attended the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as part of a fact-finding mission ahead of starting his new role.

However, just 18 days before he was set to begin, Koskas has left the Renault Group for good.

Jerome Stoll, who had been gearing up for retirement, will now continue as president.

A spokesperson for Renault Sport shed no further light on the situation when approached by the BBC, but did clarify the position of the group going forward.

They confirmed that the group will effectively continue as before, with Stoll as managing director, while Cyril Abiteboul remains the de facto team boss.

Renault will now need to put the issues behind them as they aim to build on their P4 finish in the 2018 Constructors Championship.

The team pulled off a major coup by snatching Daniel Ricciardo from Red Bull ahead of the 2019 campaign, with him set to partner Nico Hulkenberg who has been with the team since 2017.
