Renault will get results, ‘you can write that down’

Daniel Ricciardo is confident Renault will get results soon, and "you can write that down".

Daniel Ricciardo expects Renault to start picking up results before the end of the season, and “you can write that down”.

The Aussie left Red Bull for Renault ahead of the 2019 campaign after signing a two-year deal.

While it was seen very much as a “project” with one eye on 2021 as the point where the French manufacturer could push for the top of the grid again, results this season have been below par nonetheless.

After starting the season as favourites to retain their best-of-the-rest P4 spot in the Constructors’ Championship, reliability issues and at times a general lack of pace has seen them slump to P8 in the current standings, leading some, including Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, to suggest that Renault tricked Ricciardo into signing.

However, Ricciardo maintains that he is happy to have swapped teams, and though results aren’t here yet, they are on their way.

“In terms of results I’m not exactly where I’d like to be, but the atmosphere and the energy in the team are excellent. I just have to learn to be patient,” he told L’Equipe.

“F1 is a complex science that takes time. I have a contract until 2020, the results are a little disappointing at the moment but we are still in the building phase. I’m confident that the results will start coming before the end of the season. You can write that down.”
