Romain Grosjean and his sim racing team, R8G, are to compete in World eX, a new-esports series focused on fighting climate change.
Grosjean launched his team back in April, outlining his intention to use it to help young sim racers make it to real-life motor-racing.
“Launching my own sim racing team is a proud moment because I’m passionate about motorsport, innovation and embracing new challenges,” he said upon the official reveal.
“I think the team structure we have created is unique and will be instrumental in helping us to achieve the ambitious targets we have set.
“We’ve all seen the driver talent that is emerging from sim-racing and it’s impressive.
“Our goal is to reward and try to develop those drivers that have the potential to race for real.”
In the series, 10 teams, each consisting of one professional driver and one sim racer, will race electric prototypes, eX Zeros. for a total of 18 races.
R8G is the first team to commit to the series, with sim racer Erhan Jajovski and Grosjean himself driving.

“I like the concept and the forward-thinking approach of World eX co-founder Mike Rockenfeller and his team,” Grosjean said in an announcement on the official World eX website.
“As a father of a family, I know that we need to act to preserve our planet. World eX will be more than just sim racing. It will be entertaining and make esports and motorsport fans think about what they can do personally to fight climate change.
“I’m really looking forward to this new adventure. Together, I believe we can build something very exciting.”
The series was co-founded by German DTM driver and former Le Mans winner Mike Rockenfeller
“It’s great to have Romain on board right from the start of our new series,” he said.
“Romain is one of the best and most popular racing drivers in the world and is someone who believes in esports and has an interest in sustainability.
“That’s exactly what we are looking for in World eX. I’m sure R8G eSports will be a championship contender and also a great ambassador for #RacingForTheClimate.”
