Sebastian Vettel’s long-time press officer was busy in the pitlane at the 2023 edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Britta Roeske was hard at work at the Le Mans 24 Hours, with Sebastian Vettel’s press officer ‘swapping sides’ for the weekend as she slipped into a journalism role.

Roeske has been Vettel’s most trusted aide since his days with Red Bull, dating back to 2009 when she became his press officer. Roeske followed the four-time World Champion to Ferrari at the end of 2014, then onwards to Aston Martin in 2021.

For 2022, she opted to follow the German driver out of Formula 1, but remains his spokesperson during what is officially the first year of his retirement.

At this weekend’s Le Mans 24 Hours, Roeske picked up a microphone to become a pitlane reporter for the French TV station L’Equipe. Speaking in the lead up to the event, Roeske told Germany’s RTL: “I am totally looking forward to the task and, above all, to returning to the race track. To experience motorsport up close.” recommends

“I was called by a colleague from L’Equipe and asked if I could imagine that,” she continued.

“I think many things will seem familiar to me, but this time I will be on the other side and put myself in the role of a journalist.

“I would like to ask questions that are interesting for the fans and the audience. The work of journalists is often underestimated. I want to think myself that way.”

Roeske is German but is a well-known polyglot. Despite this, she acknowledged the challenge of broadcasting entirely in the French language and, in preparation, watched the entire 24 Hours of Spa with French commentary. “At the same time, it helped me to upgrade my vocabulary,” she said.

While Roeske was in the pitlane for her own work this weekend, her direct involvement in dealing with many of the teams will no doubt have helped to open doors for Vettel, who has made it clear that he is not ruling out a return to racing in his future.

The 35-year-old will likely be particularly intrigued by Roeske’s visits to the Porsche garage during the 24-hour endurance event, where she was spotted watching the action on their garage’s TVs with the Porsche crew.
