Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel opened up on his most valuable F1 life lesson and favourite gift as he answered questions from fans.

Vettel’s Formula 1 career began all the way back in 2007, but it is now confirmed that 2022 will be his final season, the four-time World Champion delivering the news prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Having won four titles and 53 races among many other achievements in a glittering career, Vettel has learnt a lot in life along the way, but the most important thing was finding what he loves doing and turning that into a career.

Fortunately for Vettel, Formula 1 was his answer to that search.

Alonso at Aston Martin could be ‘fabulous’ for both parties

PlanetF1's Jon Wilde and Oliver Harden feel Fernando Alonso heading to Aston Martin could pay plenty of dividends.

And so, he urges others to find what “drives” and “pushes” them, at which point it will rarely feel like what they are doing is a job.

“You learn a lot of life lessons not by people telling you something, but by finding something in your life that you’re passionate about or you really love doing,” he told the Aston Martin website.

“Then you never have to go to work, so to say. Obviously, there are days that are not as fun and it does still feel a bit like work, but I am very lucky that I found something very early on that I loved and was able to turn into my job.

“It makes my living, so that was a great lesson. It doesn’t need to be racing; it can be anything you want. Find something that really drives you and pushes you on, so it never gets dull or boring.”

When Vettel was asked to name a fan gift which has had received that he “really enjoyed”, it was not surprising to hear that he had plenty in mind.

But, Vettel did say that he greatly appreciates written letters and messages from his fans.

“So many things to be honest! It’s always nice to get a gift,” he said.

“I really like to read from people, when they make the effort to sit down, write a letter, message or note, so I can read what drives them, why they come to the races, why they support Formula One or support me, why they are a fan – I think that’s the greatest gift.

“Of course, there are presents as well, like a panda bear or flowers. I have a collection of keyrings! But if I’m honest, I would rather hear a little bit about what’s behind people.”
