Montezemolo would re-sign Vettel at Ferrari

Luca di Montezemolo has said that if he was still calling the shots at Ferrari then he would re-sign Sebastian Vettel to partner Charles Leclerc.
Vettel is out of contract at Ferrari at the end of 2020 and is currently in negotiations with the Scuderia about extending the deal.
However, if a deal cannot be agreed, the rumour mill says Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz and Antonio Giovinazzi are on the shortlist to replace him.
But Di Montezemolo wants to see Ferrari keep their current line-up intact, saying Vettel still has strengths that the team can use.
“Yes, because Seb is still very fast,” Di Montezemolo told Italian journalist Leo Turrini.
“He has a lot of experience and I don’t think he’s in a crisis mode in terms of motivation.
“His presence would also still be useful for Leclerc, who is very gifted but still has to confirm his position at the top after a great season.
“There will be a lot more pressure on him [Leclerc].”
Montezemolo is also of the belief that the 2020 World Champion, if there is to be one, would still be a worthy title winner despite the shortened 15-18 race season that Formula 1 are trying to assemble.
In fact, this particular title winner may be remembered even more as time progresses due to extraordinary circumstances we currently find ourselves in.
“Whoever wins would still be a worthy champion,” he added.
“It would be a season destined to go down in history, precisely because of its uniqueness.
“I hope we can get the engines going again, but it’s the same situation as our Serie A.
“It can only go ahead with safety guaranteed and behind closed doors.
“That will be the spectacle of the sport for a long time, I’m afraid.”
