Sergio Perez is determined to put his Silverstone struggles behind him and ensure he heads into the summer break on a high.

The British Grand Prix race weekend was one of the Mexican’s poorest since he joined Red Bull at the end of the 2020 campaign.

He spun in sprint qualifying, causing him to start from the pit lane, then failed to make his way up the order much on race day, finishing in P16.

Perez finished that low as the team pitted him late to take the fastest lap point from Lewis Hamilton, but even before that he was only in and around the final place in the top 10.

While the Mexican enjoyed the sprint format on the whole, he is keen to forget the whole weekend and perform well in Hungary to make amends.

“Silverstone was a poor weekend for me and one to forget,” he said in Honda’s preview for the race in Budapest.

“I enjoyed the sprint race format though. It demands a lot more from the drivers with two races and two starts. It was definitely different, that’s for sure.

“Now I am fully focused on Hungary and we plan to bounce back.

“We are very motivated as a team, we have worked really hard this week and we are doing everything we can to come back strong.”

The Hungarian Grand Prix is the final round of the first half of the season, a half which has been somewhat mixed for Checo.

He has impressed at times and even won in Baku, but Silverstone was not the first circuit he had failed to impress at.

The Red Bull man is keen to make his last weekend before the summer break a good one to ensure he does not spend his time off rueing mistakes made.

“The Hungaroring is a very unique track and it’s very similar to Monaco with high levels of downforce – it’s a very technical track,” he added.

“I’m looking forward to having a strong weekend at the last race before the summer holidays…that’s the only way we can have a good holiday, making sure we have a strong weekend in Budapest!”
