Under pressure to improve, Stefano Domenicali says he has “nothing to recommend” to Mattia Binotto other than to stay focused on Ferrari’s “priorities”.

Binotto was put in charge of Ferrari’s Formula 1 team in January 2019, replacing Maurizio Arrivabene as the Scuderia’s team boss.

However, under his reign Ferrari’s form has slumped with the team failing to grab a single win last year, which followed on from Ferrari’s controversial 2019 campaign in which rivals, and the FIA, questioned the legality of the team’s power unit.

Slumping to P6 in 2020, Binotto is under pressure to ensure Ferrari returning to winning form.

And, if they don’t, he could become the third team boss since Domenicali left the Scuderia in 2014 to get the boot.

The new Formula 1 chief, who was with Ferrari for 23 years, says he has no advice for Binotto other than to not be distracted by the pressure of leading arguably Formula 1’s most famous team.

Speaking to Corriere Della Serre, he said: “I see a company looking for a stability that can guarantee competitiveness,” he told

“I have nothing to recommend to my friend Mattia Binotto.

“At Ferrari, it’s about staying focused on priorities without being distracted by the enormous pressure that surrounds you.”

Domenicali has previously spoken about how Ferrari’s slump impacts Formula 1 with the Italian saying the sport needs a “competitive” Ferrari.

That, though, isn’t the sport’s only story line.

This season Sir Lewis Hamilton will be chasing title number eight, a new record, with Domenicali applauding the Mercedes driver’s attitude both on and off the track.

It is an attitude he says all the drivers should aspire to have.

“The Ferrari adventure affects the entire sports audience, including myself,” he said.

“Hamilton who aims to become the only eight-title driver and in the meantime communicates his ideas, touches particular strings, attracts people further away from the competitive spirit.

“This is why I will meet all the drivers. It is important that each of them understand the importance of their role not only as a professional, but as a man who cares about what is around him.”
