The provisional Mexican Grand Prix grid

Daniel Ricciardo will start Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix from pole position while his 2019 replacement, Pierre Gasly, has been sent to the back of the grid.

Ricciardo wowed in qualifying as he laid down a 1:14.759, a new lap record, to beat Max Verstappen by 0.026s.

Lewis Hamilton, who can wrap up his fifth World title with a P7 on the day, is third on the grid ahead of title rival Sebastian Vettel.

At the other end of the grid, Romain Grosjean falls to 18th place as he has a three-place penalty for causing a collision in Austin while Gasly has a 20-place penalty for changing engine parts and receiving a new gearbox.
