Toro Rosso handed a €5,000 fine for releasing Daniil Kvyat into the path of Romain Grosjean during Q1 in Abu Dhabi.

Toro Rosso have been handed a €5,000 fine for releasing Daniil Kvyat into the path of Romain Grosjean during Q1 in Abu Dhabi.

Romain Grosjean was traveling down the pit lane as he made his way to the exit, but before he could get there Toro Rosso sent Kvyat out of his garage and Grosjean swerved to avoid him.

The Haas driver complained on team radio that he almost “spun” in trying to miss Kvyat, though there were some suggestions that Grosjean made the most of the situation and waited until the last minute to brake and swerve.

Either way the stewards have ruled after talking to the teams and drivers that Kvyat “was released from the garage in an unsafe manner resulting in car eight [Grosjean] having to take evasive action.”

Grosjean was eliminated in Q1 and will start P16 due to Valtteri Bottas being sent to the back of the grid for taking new engine components for the weekend.

Kvyat will begin the race from P13.
