Verstappen wants no role in 2020 line-up decision
Max Verstappen insists that he doesn’t want to be a factor in who Red Bull chose to partner him for the 2020 season.
Verstappen is secure in his Red Bull seat for next year, but Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat are all battling to land that second Red Bull seat.
However, the Dutchman insists that he doesn’t want to play a part in who Red Bull decide to be his 2020 team-mate.
“It’s up to them. I’m not the deciding factor and I also don’t want to be,” he was quoted by Motorsport.com.
“I don’t mind who is sitting next to me, and they are the bosses so they decide.”
Pierre Gasly started out as Verstappen’s team-mate in 2019, but after struggling to get near his team-mate Gasly was demoted back to Toro Rosso over the summer break with Alex Albon moving up to take his seat at Red Bull.
Verstappen insists he has enjoyed working with both of them and was happy to see Gasly performing well since his return to the junior team – the Frenchman has scored points in two of the three races.
“[Alex is] good, I enjoy working with him, he’s very relaxed,” said Verstappen.
“But it’s no difference to Pierre, I really like working with Pierre. He’s also a very nice guy. I’m really happy now for Pierre at Toro Rosso, he had a good performance in Singapore, so for sure that makes him more comfortable.
“But coming back to Alex, so far we drive the car in pretty similar ways. Everybody has their own style but I think we are both looking for the same things.
“That is also important for the team.”
