Max Verstappen's future is 'still open for 2021'

Red Bull may have Max Verstappen on the payroll for 2020, however, his father has Jos has warned that could change at the end of next season.

Verstappen is undoubtedly one of the hottest properties in Formula 1.

The 21-year-old, a seven-time grand prix winner, is billed by many – if not everyone – as a future World Champion.

The only question is which team will he be racing for then he finally takes his first title.

Although a Red Bull driver for next season, that is the final year of Verstappen’s contract with reports linking him to a move to Mercedes.

His father Jos, a good friend of Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff, has warned Red Bull that could yet be on the cards.

“The most important thing is that we get a car with which Max can compete for the title,” GPFans reports Jos as having told Ziggo Sport.

“Next year we will be at Red Bull anyway, but everything is still open for 2021.

“It will really depend on whether we will get a car in 2020 we can fight for the championship.

“We are concentrating on next season and will look further afterwards.”
