Daniel Ricciardo was trackside with Red Bull for the first time since 2018 at the 2023 Australian GP, but with a different schedule to the one he previously knew.

The eight-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner is currently taking time away from the hustle and bustle of the Formula 1 grid, looking to recharge his batteries after a highly frustrating two-year stint with McLaren.

That spell did produce Ricciardo’s most recent victory as he took the chequered flag at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, but overall it was a story of frustration and false dawns as he failed to connect with the McLaren machinery and produce anything like his best form.

So, when McLaren decided to cancel Ricciardo’s contract a year early, he chose to step away from the grid for F1 2023 to reflect and decide if his love for the series remains, though he did not completely disconnect from the scene having signed a third driver deal with Red Bull.

That reunion includes attending selected grands prix, and the first of those was his home race, the 2023 Australian GP, and he arrived at the paddock to great fanfare as he got his first taste of F1 2023.

Ricciardo was actually getting some new job offers as soon as he arrived at the track, the marshals joking that there was space for a new volunteer.

His response of “I’ve got some free time” drew plenty of laughter, a real feel-good return already to Albert Park for the Aussie. “It’s good to be home,” he declared.

Without spoiling the video for you too much, it involved water, food, and a highly decorated surfing champ, while Ricciardo also gave us an insight into just what his Red Bull schedule consists of these days as their third driver when he is actually doing some serious work!
