Red Bull have announced another new addition to their Junior Team in the form of 2022 Formula 3 runner-up Zane Maloney.
The lack of affiliation with a Formula 1 team did not hold Maloney back in 2022 as the 19-year-old racer, who hails from Barbados, pieced together a very impressive rookie campaign in Formula 3.
Opening the season with a P4 finish in the first Bahrain race, Maloney truly began to blossom with Trident later in the season, taking to the podium for the first time with a P2 finish in the Hungary Sprint Race, before a spell of three victories in five races.
Those arrived in the Belgian, Dutch and Italian Feature races.
Finishing P2 in the final standings, just five points behind Victor Martins, Maloney’s efforts have not gone unnoticed after he announced that he will be racing under the Red Bull Junior Team banner for 2023, while he will also be a reserve driver for the Formula 1 team.
Maloney, who contested the final round of the 2022 Formula 2 season in Abu Dhabi, also with Trident, has not yet revealed his racing plans for 2023.
The addition of Maloney follows the capture of Enzo Fittipaldi, grandson of multi-time Formula 1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi.
“I am thrilled to announce that I will be a part of the Red Bull Racing Junior Team and F1 Reserve Driver in 2023,” Maloney posted on social media.
“I am grateful for the opportunity and support, and look forward to getting the season started.”
Maloney has tasted single-seater title glory in the past, winning the F4 British Championship with Carlin back in 2019.
