Not every Formula 2 Champion has gone on to win in Formula 1. But for today’s F1 quiz, can you name the drivers who have managed to achieve such a feat?
Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport, the dream for every young kid starting out in karting.
But getting to the top is a monumentally tough challenge that comes with many big costs and sacrifices.
The best route to get a drive in Formula 1 is to rise up through the ranks and win in the other divisions. Formula 2 and 3 are designed specifically for that reason.
Formula 2 has a very confusing start to life, starting in 1948 but the first recorded championship was in 1967.
It was created for the reason it is still in place now – to give young and inexperienced drivers the opportunity to grow and prove themselves and give them a path to Formula 1.
Formula 2 has gone through various incarnations; FIA International Formula 3000, GP2 Series, and now the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
But one constant regardless of its name is that it has always been the feeder series to Formula 1.
However, history has shown that not every Formula 2 Champion has gone on to find success in Formula 1. Some make it to the top, but don’t end up achieving anything while there.
Negativity isn’t the focus of today’s F1 quiz, though. Your challenge is to name every driver who won a Formula 2 Drivers’ Championship who also went on to win at least one Formula 1 Grand Prix.
If you want to give another one of our F1 quizzes a try, then have a go at this morning’s Guess the Grid: 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix.
You also have to try out today’s Sportword if you haven’t already. It’s Planet Sport’s word guessing game, where you must guess the Formula 1-based word in six tries.
To name all the drivers for this quiz will be a challenge, but we wish you the best of luck!
