Eric Boullier insists there is "no pressure" on McLaren to confirm their 2017 line-up despite a lot of interest from rivals in Stoffel Vandoorne.
The GP2 Champion made his Formula 1 debut last time out in Bahrain and scored a point, McLaren's first of this season.
It was a brilliant weekend for the test driver, who outqualified 2009 World Champion Jenson Button by two places before racing on to P10.
Vandoorne's display has attracted the attention of many in the paddock but despite that, Racing Director Boullier says McLaren are in no rush to announce him as a 2017 driver.
"I know a lot of people have their eyes on him so it's good for him," Boullier said of the Belgian racer.
"No, there's no pressure [to confirm the 2017 driver line-up]!
"At least he didn't have time to think about it. We didn't put any pressure on him, and he did a brilliant job.
"He's obviously going to be even better if he races again so if he has to we are confident."
