Amidst reports that McLaren could go orange this season, Fernando Alonso says he doesn’t care what colour the car is, all he wants is a fast car.
McLaren have been teasing fans for the past few weeks with images decked out in orange.
This has led to speculation that the team, which has already announced that the MP4 prefix is a thing of the past, instead naming this year’s car the MCL32, could race in an orange livery.
“I do not know, what I’ve read is that it may be something orange, black, white,” Spain’s AS reports Alonso as having said on Instagram.
“I asked Eric Boullier the question with the excuse of the decoration for my helmet and he said, ‘you’ll see in the presentation’.”
But more than an orange car, or a black car, or any other colour car, what the double World Champion wants is a fast one.
“I hope what it is, is fast, the colour is not the most important thing,” he said.
As for the prospect of race wins, which McLaren have not achieved since 2012, Alonso has urged caution.
“I think we have to be cautious, I have that read Zak [Brown] said that this year it will be difficult to win, well… who knows?
“I’m keeping a positive mind. I’m better than ever, I’m preparing as never and I’m going to go for it and who knows what will really happen, I’m going to do it all.
“Be careful, the last races last year we were a second or second and a half off Mercedes so we must be cautious. We will see at the end but it’s too early to make predictions.”
