With rumours floating around that Jenson Button is set to leave McLaren, teammate Fernando Alonso has stressed the fact that he trusts his Honda powered team enough to make the right choice.

Button’s deal at McLaren is set to expire at the end of the season, with promising youngster Stoffel Vandoorne, who has already gained a point for the team at the Bahrain Grand Prix, set to take his place.

However, the Spaniard revealed that he has a good working relationship with the 2009 World Champion, so the British-based outfit should consider that when making a decision.

“Whatever the team decides, l will be happy with,” Alonso told Sky Sports.

“I want to give my best for the team and if they take a decision for Jenson or for Stoffel [for the 2017 season] it’s because they think it’s the best.

“In the last two years I have been working with Jenson fantastically well and that’s probably something they need to think [about] as well.”
