Alonso on engine failure: That’s the way it is

Another day, another failure for McLaren with Fernando Alonso not even making it to the third corner of the Barcelona circuit before his Honda engine blew.

Out on track in front of his home fans, Alonso’s FP1 came to a premature halt as his wheels locked up and he spun at the entrance to Turn 3.

It was yet another engine failure that caused the problem, forcing the Spaniard out of the session.

“It is a question for Honda, not me,” he told Sky Sports.

“The engine blew up after one corner and that is the way it is.

“Unfortunately we will lose the first session.

“I’m sorry for the fans.

“The second session will hopefully be better and we can recover this time.”

However, it is McLaren that Alonso feels really sorry for as it means one less car to trial their updates.

“Yeah it is tough, but it more tough for McLaren who have brought updates trying to find a millisecond here and there.

“Now we can’t even run.

“Hopefully we find a solution and run in FP2.”
