Alonso ‘will’ win a third title before quitting F1

Fernando Alonso says he has no plans to swap his Formula 1 car with a World Endurance Championship machine, at least not until he has a third World title to his tally.

The double World Champion has implied that he will head to the World Endurance Championship when he quits Formula 1.

In a recent video to mark the end of Mark Webber’s racing career, he spoke of joining “his adventure” which led to speculation that he could be off to Porsche in 2018.

Alonso, though, insists he has no time frame for a possible career move, he only knows it will happen after he has won a third World title.

“That’s something I don’t know,” he said when asked about a time frame. “It’s nothing new what I said in that message that is quite famous right now in my press conference!

“But nothing new, really. Committed to Formula 1 100 percent next year here with the team.

“In the future there’s it’s no doubt the Le Mans 24 Hours is a very attractive challenge and a very attractive thing to do because I like the category, I like the cars and it’s a good challenge.

“But I don’t know if that future means in two years’ time, in five years’ time or in 11 years’ time. I don’t know yet, so it’s nothing new.

“The first thing I want to do, and I will do, is win the third World Championship in Formula 1. Then I’ll see.”
