Bottas hails perfect day for Mercedes

Valtteri Bottas admits Mercedes could not have asked for a better Italian Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton led home a 1-2 with Ferrari a distant third.

After a wild and wet qualifying session, Sunday’s race was a pretty straightforward one for Merc as Hamilton claimed a pole to flag victory while Bottas came from fourth on the grid to finish second.

And it really was a breeze in the park the Brackley-based squad as both their drivers finished 30s ahead of Vettel in third place.

After negotiating his way past the Kimi Raikkonen, Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll in the opening few laps, Bottas cruised to P2.

“Like with Lewis, the start was tricky. I just needed to keep my head down and get the places step-by- step,” the Finn said.

“The car was so strong. It was amazing today how quick we were and it was a pure joy to drive. The pace was good and I enjoyed it.

“The perfect result for us a team.”

When asked if they had any issues during the race, he replied: “No drama.”
