Bottas would back data sharing ban

Valtteri Bottas would support a ban on data sharing between team-mates but doesn’t think it will ever happen.

Bottas’s new team-mate Lewis Hamilton recently called for “unfair” sharing of data amongst team-mates to be stopped.

The Brit feels that each driver, including himself, should be responsible for their own set-up.

“I go out, do my laps, do all my homework, [and] the other guy can see everything,” he in a interview with Mercedes sponsor UBS.

“I have asked my team. I don’t want to see my team-mate’s.

“I don’t feel it’s fair that he brings his A-game and I should be able to study his A-game on a computer.”

The Mercedes driver’s new team-mate Bottas agrees, saying he would he support a ban on data sharing.

He does, however, believe it will ever happen.

“If it would be [banned], I wouldn’t mind personally,” admitted Bottas to Read Motorsport.

“If I were only thinking of myself, but for the team it would be better.

“It doesn’t matter what I would say for this, because the team is going to decide what we are going to do.

“That is mostly likely to share the data because it is best for the team.

“I’m sure that every single day on track, there will be occasions both drivers can find something interesting out from the data of a team-mate.

“So that is the reason and that will push the team forward, so that’s why I don’t think it will be banned.”
