Jenson Button insists he is happy to sit out next week’s test at Mugello as he doesn’t think he will be much of a “benefit”.

While the likes of Ferrari and Lotus have confirmed that they will send their race drivers to Italy, McLaren have opted to use test duo Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey over the three days.

However, Button’s team-mate Lewis Hamilton has hinted in recent days that he might alter his plans and take part in the May 1-3 session following the team’s poor display at the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday.

Button, though, has no problems skipping the event as the Woking-based squad won’t try out any huge updates on the MP4-27.

“The reason why we’re not there is because we’ve never been to Mugello before,” he said.

“I don’t really think we will be a benefit because there aren’t any massive updates to try.

“For the test drivers to put some miles on parts and try some very extreme things, then I think it’s good, but it’s not necessary for us to be there.”
