Button: Lewis is in a comfortable situation

Jenson Button has taken another swipe at Lewis Hamilton's "comfortable situation" at Mercedes, saying there is not much competition from his team-mate.

In the build-up to the United States Grand Prix, Button was quoted as saying that although Hamilton "has been on top of his game and done a great job" he has "had an easy ride this year".

The Mercedes driver went on to win the race in Austin and he secured his third Drivers' Championship in the process.

There was a bit of tension between Hamilton and his team-mate Nico Rosberg after the US GP with the Briton saying "it's the worst thing being my team-mate".

When asked about it, Button told Brazil’s Globo: "Did he say that? Lewis is very talented, no doubt. If you put Vettel or myself in the same car as his, Lewis would not have it so easy and would not have as much confidence as it has today. He is in a very comfortable situation. Does a great job, but there is no competition with his team-mate or from another team, which makes things easier. "

The 2009 World Champion added: "There are many capable drivers in F1 and the results depend heavily on the condition in which you find yourself in."

Button, though, believes Hamilton will have a more difficult challenge on his hands next year as Ferrari will up their game, saying: "[Sebastian] Vettel will fight him, Kimi [Raikkonen] as well."
