With the World Championship all but lost, Jenson Button is focusing on giving McLaren some momentum heading into next season.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel could potentially secure the Driver’s title in Singapore this weekend, and even if the German is unsuccessful this week, it seems inevitable that he eventually will be.
Button doesn’t seem particularly phased as to whether or not he finishes second in the running but admits that ending the season strongly would give McLaren a boost going in to next year.
“Finishing second is not really the aim is it, not when you’ve won a championship?” said Button, the 2009 World Champion.
“If you haven’t won the championship it is probably different, but when you have, you just want to win.
“It’s not going to make any difference to the championship now, but it would be nice as a team to qualify on pole here, or at least the front row.
“Then if we can win the race and continue like that until the end of the season then that is a great starting point for next year,” he added.
