Chandhok eyes test role for 2012

Unlike several other drivers, Karun Chandhok has accepted defeat in his search for a 2012 race seat, admitting he is ready to continue as a test driver.

The 27-year-old Indian driver acted as Team Lotus’ test and reserve driver in 2011, but he did get a taste of proper action at the Nurburgring when the team opted to hand him driving duties for the German Grand Prix in place of Jarno Trulli.

Although he had high hopes of securing a seat for next year, the chances of that happening are all but over as Williams and HRT are the only teams with drives still available.

“I am mentally preparing myself to continue as a test driver for another season,” he told the Times of India.

“As of now, most of the teams have announced their list of drivers for the 2012 season. There are only two slots up for grabs – one with the Williams and other with the HRT.

“The situation is a bit difficult but I am ready to work hard. The F1 teams are also looking at drivers who can essentially bring them good sponsorship money so it’s a tough situation.”
