Dennis certain McLaren will improve

McLaren Honda are working day and night to repair the problems that saw the team finish in a dismal ninth place on the constructors’ championship last season.

The team scored just 27 points in 2015, while drivers Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button respectively finished in 16th with 16 points and 17th with 11 points on the driver’s championship.

Ron Dennis, McLaren Technology Group chairman, told Formula1.com that the team would improve in 2016.

“We know what we’ve got to do to turn things around, and, as I speak, we’re working night and day to do just that,” he said.

“Put it this way: if you visit the McLaren Technology Centre on a Saturday or a Sunday this winter, you won’t find many free car parking spaces!”

Dennis added that the team had all the elements needed to succeed, including two former world champions as race drivers.

“Our chassis is a very good one – all the data bears that out. Our driver line-up is the best in the sport – the stats prove that,” he said

“Our partnership with Honda is a new one – or a freshly renewed one to be precise – and it’s not remotely surprising that it should be taking a little while to gel. That’s what Formula One is like, and it always has been.”
