Although he is determined to “stay focused” on his job at Force India, Paul di Resta admits it is “nice” to be linked with some of the top teams.

Just days after triple World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart urged Ferrari to look at di Resta as a possible replacement for the struggling Felipe Massa, the Scot was linked with a Mercedes.

Mercedes Chief Executive Officer Nick Fry revealed over the weekend that he is on the Brackley-based squad’s “radar” and could take over from Michael Schumacher should the seven-time World Champion decide to quit at the end of this season.

“He’s done a fantastic job, he’s a nice guy, he’s great team player and he would be one of the drivers undoubtedly that, if Michael were to decide he didn’t want to continue, we would look at,” Fry said.

The 26-year-old Di Resta has welcomed the speculation, but remained coy about this future.

“It’s always nice to have the press interest and people looking out for you, but I need to stay focused on doing the best job I possibly can,” he told Sky Sports News.

“It’s no secret that I want to be a race winner and World Champion – and to do that, I need to be in a great car.”
