Jaguar Land Rover have until July to negotiate a deal to purchase the Silverstone circuit after being handed the right to exclusive negotiations.
The British Racing Drivers' Club met at the track earlier this week to discuss the potential sale to Jaguar.
It was put to a vote with reports claiming 54 percent of the members agreed to give Jaguar exclusive rights to negotiate a sale.
The deal is believed to be worth £33m for the 249-year lease on the Northamptonshire track.
Should it go ahead, the BRDC will retain the rights to the run the British Grand Prix at the track and will also cover the cost of hosting the grand prix.
Jaguar, though, are not the only ones interested in the track.
Ginetta owner Lawrence Tomlinson is also believed to have put forward an offer but has now been blocked from negotiating a deal until July.
