Ferrari boss reiterates quit threat

Sergio Marchionne insists Ferrari’s recent threat to quit F1 was not an idle one as there are “things we can’t back down on.”

In October Liberty Media unveiled their engine blueprint for 2021.

The sport’s new owners want cheaper and simpler engines but their proposal was met with criticism from Ferrari and Mercedes.

Such was Ferrari’s unhappiness that the Scuderia’s president Marchionne threatened to quit Formula 1.

And the Italian has now stated that it is not an idle threat.

“The dialogue has started and will continue to evolve,” Marchionne said during this past weekend’s Alfa Romeo event with the Sauber team.

“We have time until 2020 to find a solution which benefits Ferrari.

“We have to find a solution which is good for the sport but we also have to be clear on the things we can’t back down on.”
