Ferrari ‘not interested’ in Alonso return

Fernando Alonso shouldn’t knock on Ferrari’s door for a 2018 race-seat as Sergio Marchionne says they are “not interested.”

The double World Champion is believed to be looking for a new home for next year’s championship.

Reports have linked him to most of the top teams on the grid including a return to Ferrari.

That, though, won’t happen according to Marchionne.

“Alonso may well have shown the desire to return [to Ferrari], but he did not find the right response from our side,” Motorsport.com quoted Marchionne as having said.

“We’re not interested.”

And as for speculation that Max Verstappen could be on his way to Maranello next season or in 2019, Marchionne said nothing had been agreed.

He explained: “As for Verstappen we have not signed anything. Before the end of the year you’ll know.”
