Ferrari maintain they have not given up hope of winning the 2011 Championship, but admit most of their developmental focus is on their challenger for next year.

The Italian team made a sluggish start to this season and found themselves well off the pace of Red Bull. Fernando Alonso, though, has proved that there is still some fight in the team and notched up one race win and three podiums in the four grands prix before the summer break. However, despite his upturn in form Alonso is still 89 points behind Sebastian Vettel in the Drivers’ standings.

With their chances of winning the Championship almost out of their hands, team principal Stefano Domenicali says they have decided to work “full throttle” on their car for next year.

“Everyone seems to be like me, very motivated with batteries fully charged for the rest of the season,” he told the official Ferrari website. “Our realistic goal for the remaining eight grands prix is to win races, to score as many points as possible. I am sure we can achieve good results, but we should avoid looking at the classification, because we know the Championship will be very difficult given the current gap, but let’s see where it is in a few races. We have the potential to do well and we have to believe in ourselves.
