‘Flawless Stevens getting it right’

Although Will Stevens is yet to get off the mark this season, Manor's sporting director says he is doing a "good job" and has hardly put a wheel wrong.

As expected, Stevens' first full season in Formula 1 is proving to be a trying one.

Racing a revised 2014 Marussia powered by a old-spec Ferrari engine, he has spent much of the season lapping at the very back of the field.

In fact the Brit's best finish was the P15 he achieved in China, a race that only 17 drivers completed.

But despite his lack of points, Manor's sporting director Graeme Lowdon has only praise for the driver.

"I have to say Will is doing a really good job – and I am not just saying that because he is in our team," Lowdon said on Sky Sports F1's Midweek Report.

"You can't see it on the timesheets because we are limited by how fast we can go at the moment, but he has hardly put a foot wrong.

"In fact, I was talking to a journalist in Barcelona who commented that he couldn't see a single mistake all season so far, until he had that thought and Will ran a little bit wide.

"That is the only foot wrong so far – and that was in free practice I should add.

"He is doing a great job and it is up to us in the team to keep pushing and make sure we are closing the gap so that the drivers can then be tested against everyone else in a racing situation."
