FP3: Hamilton makes it three from three

Lewis Hamilton put his earlier woes behind him to blitz the competition in Saturday’s final practice for the United States GP.

Saturday’s hour-long session did not get off to the best start for Mercedes as both Hamilton and Nico Rosberg appeared to have brake problems.

Rosberg confirmed his in a conversation with his engineer who conceded it was “not perfect” while Hamilton’s woes were highlighted by an off-track excursion and a spin at Turn 12.

But despite looking out of sorts, Hamilton came flying through on the soft tyres to post a 1:37.107.

That time put him 0.883s up on Rosberg, who also put his earlier ‘brake disc glazing’ issues behind him to finish second.

Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas were third and fourth, both drivers over a second behind the leading Mercedes while Fernando Alonso was in his customary P5.

Daniel Ricciardo, who had led for much of the session on the medium tyres, was sixth fastest ahead of Nico Hulkenberg and Adrian Sutil.

Once again Sebastian Vettel finished slowest of all as the German focused solely on race set-up as he will be starting from the pit lane after changing all the components of his Renault unit.
