Giedo: Weight limit issue outrageous

Giedo van der Garde has weighed in on F1’s new weight limit, saying it would be “outrageous” if it cost Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta drives.

Although the weight limit has been increased to 690kgs for next year’s Championship, much of the extra 48kgs is set to go towards the new V6 turbocharged engines and the Energy Recovery Systems.

In recent weeks, reports have emerged that teams are struggling to get down to the minimum weight, putting the future of taller heavier drivers at risk.

There is speculation that the weight could yet cost Hulkenberg and di Resta a place on the grid although the German is believed to be on the verge of signing with Lotus.

“I’m on the limit at 73kg,” van der Garde, who has yet to secure a 2014 seat, told GPUpdate.net
